Shortly after leaving the Tune Wranglers in 1937 fiddle player Tom Dickey formed the Tom Dickey Show Boys. He enlisted Adolph Hofner as singer/guitarist who had recorded earlier in 1936 with Jimmie Revard and His Oklahoma Playboys and who later started his own band Adolph Hofner and His Texans. Sadly these are the only 8 sides they recorded.
October 27,1938; Blue Bonnet Hotel, San Antonio, Texas.
Tom Dickey, fiddle; Bill Dickey, bass/vocal; Bert Ferguson, piano; Adolph Hofner,
guitar/vocal; Emil "Bash" Hofner, steel guitar/guitar.

Thanks for the post. A couple of clarifications in the bio: Tom Dickey didn't die shortly after the session. He continued to lead bands into the postwar years (I think he might have cut some square dance records after the war, but I may be wrong). He died in 1956.
Also, though he had recorded under his own name, Adolph Hofner did not have his own band prior to joining Dickey. He had left Revard's band, joined Dickey's and later formed his first band after leaving Dickey.
Thanks Kevin. You should be doing the bios here. You're a western swing encyclopedia! I originally thought Adolph started his band after Tom Dickey Show Boys but the recording sessions state that Adolph recorded with his Texans 5 months before the Show Boys session. Is that correct?
drats!! this link is dead . . . can you please re-up??
Thanks Doc, Fixed :-)
Thanks for this post, and the tunes. Tom and Bill Dickey were my great uncles, and this is the first I've heard their music. My family is celebrating my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary this year - this will be quite a treat for them!
That's wonderful Swingfan!
