Sample Song - "They Always Pick On Me"We have a special treat for you this week, or should I say This month. Sorry about the long gap between postings. WS-on-78 friend and contributer Dennis Flannigan has donated an Interview he did back in 1978 for KRAB-FM Radio in Seatle Washington with Texas Jim Lewis. It's about 76 minutes long and cuts off abruptly because it's the first part of a two part interview. It's such a rare thing to hear such an intimate interview with a Western Swing legend. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Also included in the download are 7 songs from Texas Jim Lewis & His Lone Star Cowboys.
Texas Jim got his start playing in speakeasies in the early 1930s then joined the Swift Jewel Cowboys in 1932. Later on around the mid 1930s he started his own group the Lone Star Cowboys. He Led the band until he was drafted into the army durring WWII. The band was then taken over by Spade Cooley. After the war he returned to recording, had his own radio shows, His own TV show "Sheriff Tex's Safety Junction" and costared in at least 10 western movies. He continued to play in western bands well into the 1970s.
